Council Boss charges rate collectors on effectiveness

...Plan to buy three Motorcycles to aid performance

In a bid to boost the internally generated revenue of Gbonyin Local Council Development Area, the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon Oluwadamilare Ajayi has called on all the revenue collectors to be more effective and efficient in discharging their duties.

The council boss stated this during a meeting he held with all the rate collectors in the council area.

He noted that people, most especially at the grassroots, always find it difficult to pay their taxes to the government willingly and that it is through resourcefulness and commitment to duty on the part of rate collectors that such taxes and revenue could be collected from the people.

Ajayi called on the rate collectors to devise means of collecting government-approved taxes from the people in the council area and that they should avoid unethical practices.

The council boss further assured the rate officers that plans are underway to procure three motorcycles for them to aid hitch-free movement to all towns, villages, and farm settlements in the council area.

Some of the rate collectors who spoke at the meeting thanked the chairman for his support and assured him of effective service delivery.

They highlighted some of the challenges facing them including the deplorable condition of some markets and the unwillingness to pay taxes from sawmillers, okada riders, trailer drivers, and some other artisans.

The chairman promised to meet with the leadership of okada riders, sawmillers, and drivers in the area and promised that markets with dilapidated structures would be renovated soon.

The meeting was attended by top management staff and political office holders in the council area.
