The Kebbi State Government has debunked an allegation that the state accounted for 15,979 and 18,567 registered members of homosexuality and lesbianism respectively.
The State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, debunked the allegation while reacting to preaching at an Islamic gathering delivered by Dr. Nasir Kigo, Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office, Birnin Kebbi.
The governor, who frowned at the figures given by the permanent secretary, also said the statistics were baseless and lacked supportive evidence to prove the numbers.
“After thorough investigation, the government discovered that it was false information. Therefore, we are calling on the general public to disregard this piece of information because it lacked merit,” he said.
Gov. Idris announced that the government would take action against the perm-sec, being the formulator of the said baseless figures.
It could be recalled that the perm-sec had delivered a lecture during an Islamic gathering, which was posted on Facebook.
During the lecture, he alleged that at the first census, statistics showed that Sokoto was placed second in the whole federation with 9,978 registered members practicing homosexuality.
“Sokoto also has 10,456 registered lesbians, and they were third in the country.
“In Kebbi 1,088 were fully registered members who practice homosexuality as at the first census, while they had 7,986 registered lesbians.
“However, during the subsequent census, Kebbi has 15,979 registered homo members with 18,567 registered lesbians,” according to the perm-sec.
