Nigerian Entrepreneur Sim Shagaya celebrates 50th Birthday, vows to achieve 1 Million person enrollment in University

Sim Shagaya, founder of Miva Open University and ULesson Group, marked his 50th birthday on Wednesday in Abuja, surrounded by family, friends, and the international community. The celebration was a testament to Shagaya’s remarkable journey as a visionary entrepreneur and educator.
Standard-Times Nigeria reports that in his remarks, Shagaya expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and acknowledged the weight of responsibility that comes with his work. He reflected on his journey, stating that his experiences have given him clarity on the importance of education and the potential for impact through his platforms.
Standard-Times Nigeria also reports that Shagaya emphasized the challenges of building a business in Nigeria, citing the country’s macroeconomic cycles and the resulting anger and demand for a better society among youths. He underscored the responsibility that comes with providing affordable education, highlighting the careful consideration that goes into setting tuition fees.
The celebrant announced his ambitious goal of achieving 1 million university enrollments in the years ahead. He noted that Miva Open University has made significant progress, growing from 500 students in its first semester to a projected 10,000 by the end of May 2025.
The event featured a panel discussion on the theme “Honouring a Legacy of Leadership, Innovation, and Impact.” Amongst Dignitaries that eulogies Sim Shagaya included Eric Lee, Hussain S. Osifade, Mutari Shagaya, Bishop Matthew Kukah, and Abubakar Suleiman, among others.
To commemorate Shagaya’s 50th birthday, the wife of the Minister of Budget and Planning announced 100 scholarship supports for underserved education communities in Nigeria. Additionally, the board members of Miva Open University and ULesson Group announced 100 scholarships for Nigerian students.
The celebration concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony and toasting, marking a milestone in Shagaya’s life and legacy.
