In a bid to promote sports development and provide opportunities for Nigerian youths, the Permanent Secretary of the Youth and Sports Development Secretariat, Nancy S. Nathan, Mni, has emphasized the importance of baseball, softball, and Little League in taking Nigerian youths off the streets.
During a courtesy visit to the President of the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association (NBSA), Mr. Uche Odozor, at his Abuja office, Mrs. Nathan highlighted the need to promote all kinds of sports that will give Nigeria a good name and authority. She described Mr. Odozor as a capable player and passionate person who will take Nigeria Baseball to the next level.
Mrs. Nathan stressed that baseball is an international game that can expose Nigerian children to compete favorably with their counterparts worldwide. She emphasized the need to promote baseball among Nigerian youths in schools, highlighting its benefits in developing mental and physical capacity, focusing on life goals, and providing economic value.
The NBSA President expressed appreciation for Mrs. Nathan’s support and promised that the NBSA would live up to its responsibilities.
The visit came after the NBSA President, alongside other officials, inspected the ongoing NBSA office renovation and participated in a throwing and catching drill.
This development is part of a broader effort to promote baseball and softball in Nigeria. The Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association has been working to develop the sport, including partnerships with international organizations and training programs for coaches and players.
As Nigeria seeks to develop its sports sector, initiatives like this can provide opportunities for youths to engage in positive activities, develop their skills, and potentially compete at the international level.
