South African Authorities Arrest Chidinma Adetshina’s Mother Over Alleged Identity Fraud

The South African government has confirmed the arrest of Anabela Rungo, mother of Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidinma Adetshina, on charges related to fraudulently obtaining a South African identity document.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Department of Home Affairs announced that the operation was carried out by its investigators in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS).
According to officials, Rungo, a Mozambican national, was apprehended at a residence in Cape Town following an investigation into her immigration status.
Siya Qoza, spokesperson for the Department of Home Affairs, confirmed that Rungo had been declared persona non grata in September 2024 after authorities identified irregularities in her residency documents.
“Department investigators, with support from SAPS, detained Anabela Rungo at a Cape Town property. Her South African documentation was revoked in September 2024 after it was determined that it had been obtained fraudulently, making her ineligible to remain in the country,” Qoza stated.
This development comes after Chidinma Adetshina withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant, following public scrutiny regarding her nationality and the identity fraud allegations against her mother
