High Court Sentenced three men to death over murder of Fatinoye’s family in Abeokuta

Two years after the brutal killing of Mr. Kehinde and Mrs. Bukola Fatinoye, along with their son, Oreoluwa, justice has been served as an Abeokuta High Court delivered its final judgment.

The court sentenced Lekan Adekanbi, Ahmed Odetola, and Waheed Adeniyi to death by hanging for their roles in the gruesome attack that took place on January 1, 2023, at the Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta.

The Fatinoye family was targeted in a violent home invasion, during which the assailants stole large sums of money and valuables, including a Hyundai vehicle worth ₦12 million.

The brutality of the attack shocked the community, Mr. Kehinde Fatinoye was stabbed to death, Mrs. Bukola Fatinoye was bludgeoned with a sledgehammer and knife, and their son Oreoluwa was bound and thrown into the Ogun River, where he tragically drowned.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Basirat Adebowale declared, “Adekanbi, Odetola, and Adeniyi, for killing father, mother, and son, you do not deserve mercy. You are hereby sentenced to death by hanging.”

The trio was found guilty of multiple offenses, including armed robbery, murder, and arson, under the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State.

In addition to the death sentences, several individuals who aided the culprits also faced justice.

Mrs. Temitope Fadairo, wife of Lekan Adekanbi, was sentenced to two years in prison for harboring her husband.

Adenike Adekanbi, mother of Lekan Adekanbi, received one year in prison for providing false information to the police.

Azeez Usman found guilty of receiving stolen property, was sentenced to 14 years of hard labor.

Anuoluwapo Owolaja was sentenced to two years in prison.

Abass Odetola and Lukmon Adewusi were acquitted of all charges.
