The establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development (FMLD) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been hailed as a transformative step towards addressing unemployment and fostering economic growth.

Speaking at the opening of the 2025 Nigeria Livestock Investment Summit, held at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Conference Centre in Abuja, the President of the Livestock Producers Association of Nigeria (LIPAN), Alhaji Sanusi Hashimu Mon, commended the initiative. He described it as a life-changing development that will create significant employment opportunities for Nigerian youths while resolving long-standing crises between farmers and herders.

Alhaji Sanusi referred to the ministry as a “game-changer” and applauded President Tinubu for appointing competent leadership to drive its operations. He expressed optimism that, with the right policies, the ministry would become self-sustaining and a vital pillar of national economic development.

Mr. Byron Isi, representing the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical Assistance, also lauded the initiative. He emphasized the potential of the livestock sector to leverage Nigeria’s youthful population of nearly 160 million, creating inclusive growth and sustainable livelihoods.

The two-day summit, organized by LIPAN in collaboration with Transhumance Pacifique, the German Corporation, the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, and the House of Representatives Livestock Committee, highlighted the critical role of livestock in economic and capacity development.

The event concluded its first day with group photos, underscoring a shared commitment to transforming Nigeria’s livestock sector into a driver of innovation, security, and youth empowerment.
