The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders, CONYL, the umbrella body of all the youth groups drawn across the six geopolitical zones, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Brig. General Buba Marwa (rtd) is a performer to head the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

This appreciation was contained in a press release signed by Comrade Goodluck Inem, the President General of the group, and made available to our reporter in Umuahia on Thursday.

The release commended and appreciated Brig. General Buba Marwa (rtd) for his efforts in combating and eradicating drug abuse in Nigeria.

“His leadership and unwavering commitment to this cause have made a profound impact, and the positive changes that have taken place under his guidance are evident.

“The arrest of 18,500 suspected drug traffickers and seizure of 2.6 million kilograms of illicit drugs in 2024 by the NDLEA is the first of its kind since the agency was established. It is indeed a groundbreaking achievement.

“The steps NDLEA have taken in promoting awareness, providing resources for recovery, and supporting those who have struggled with addiction have undoubtedly saved lives and changed futures,” the group stated.

The group equally commended the vision of NDLEA, headed by Gen. Marwa, for a drug-free environment, which has inspired many, and has helped reduce the devastating effects of drugs and substance abuse in Nigeria.

“General Marwa has restored the integrity of the nation among the comity of Nations. He has restored the confidence of International Drug agencies like the US Drug Enforcement Administration and DEA, which is evidence of the support given to the NDLEA to succeed in its fight against illicit drugs. The donation of the Central Exhibit Office in Ikoyi Lagos to the NDLEA by the US government is a confirmation that the NDLEA is on top of the game against Drug abuse,” the release further stated.

The group commends the ability of the agency to foster a sense of unity and purpose in the fight against drug abuse.

CONYL called on the general public to support the efforts of the NDLEA in eradicating drug abuse in our society by giving useful information to the agency to serve Nigerians better.
