Kidnappers demand N75 million to release Anglican bishop, family

The Anglican Bishop, Rev. Canon Olowolagba, his wife, and children were abducted along the Iboropa Road in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N75 million for their release, sparking negotiations that led to a brief reduction before returning to the original amount.

Sources confirm that the kidnappers have been in contact with the bishop’s family and Anglican Church leaders.

Efforts to raise funds have seen contributions from various groups and associations, but the fluctuating ransom demands have delayed the release of the victims.

The Bishop of Akoko Anglican Diocese, Rt. Rev. Babajide Bada revealed that the family was traveling from Ipesi to Ikaram when they were taken.

Among the victims are the bishop’s daughter, a student at Adekunle Ajasin University, and a nine-year-old girl.

State security outfits, including Amotekun Corps, local hunters, and the police, are actively working to rescue the victims.

Amotekun commander Chief Adetunji Adeleye confirmed the ongoing operation in collaboration with other security agencies.

Community leaders, including Sheikh Basiru Aminu, chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Akoko North-West, have urged prayers for the family’s safe return.

While the police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, stated the incident had not been officially reported to any police station, the Amotekun Corps is reportedly combing the surrounding bush to locate the captives.

Efforts are ongoing to secure their release unharmed.
