The Akwa Ibom state Governor, HE Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, has delivered a heartfelt Christmas Day message to the people of Akwa Ibom, emphasizing the season’s message of peace, love, and unity.

He expressed gratitude for the support and prayers from the people over the past year and outlined the state’s ongoing commitment to growth and prosperity.

In his Christmas broadcast, Governor Eno joined millions of Christians worldwide in celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, calling on the people to embrace the Christmas spirit of giving and kindness.

“Christmas is a time for us to look out for the vulnerable and inspire hope in those who are struggling. Just as Jesus was born in humble circumstances, we must remind ourselves that anyone, regardless of their current situation, can rise and achieve greatness,” he said.

The Governor acknowledged the collective achievements of the state, especially in the last 18 months, thanks to the continued support of the people.

Looking ahead to the New Year, he reiterated the state’s commitment to producing enough food to feed the population, improving rural development, expanding infrastructure, and ensuring that Akwa Ibom remains a peaceful and prosperous state.

“We will continue to roll up our sleeves and work hard to ensure that our children receive quality education, which will enable them to compete with their peers around the world,” he added.

A key theme of Governor Eno’s message was the need for Akwa Ibom’s people to harness their talents and creativity for personal and collective growth. “We will continue to focus on the needs of our people while encouraging them to arise and flourish through the application of the gifts and creativity God has placed within each of us,” he emphasized.

In his address, Governor Eno also touched on economic developments, including the payment of the 13th-month salary, known as “Eno-member,” and the ongoing verification of public service employees.

The Governor assured the public that the verification process would soon conclude, enabling the implementation of the newly agreed 80,000 Naira minimum wage.

To spread Christmas cheer, the Governor announced the distribution of 20 bags of rice to each of the state’s 2,272 gazetted villages. He called on other stakeholders in the state’s 368 wards to complement these efforts, ensuring that the Christmas spirit reaches every corner of Akwa Ibom.

Highlighting the peace and security that Akwa Ibom enjoys, Governor Eno urged the state’s youth to continue fostering harmony during the holiday season. “Our state is peaceful, safe, and secure, and I call on our young people to help maintain this during the Yuletide. Let us avoid any actions that could disturb the public peace,” he said.

The Governor also expressed pride in the ongoing Christmas Unplugged 2024 celebrations, which have brought thousands of visitors to the state to witness the rich cultural displays at the Christmas Village. He praised the event for showcasing the unity, creativity, and industrious spirit of the Akwa Ibom people.

As he concluded his message, Governor Eno wished all Akwa Ibomites a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. “Let the spirit of unity and love guide us into the new year, and may we continue to thrive together as one people,” he said.

“God bless us all,” Governor Eno concluded, extending his festive greetings to all residents of the state.
