FCTA to build two indoor sports centres in Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has approved contracts to build two multi-events sports centres in strategic locations in the city.
The memo regarding the contract was presented at the 11th FCT Executive Council meeting, which was presided over on Monday by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The Acting Executive Secretary of Federal Capital Development Administration (FCDA), Richard Daudu, disclosed this while briefing reporters at the end of the last FCT EXCO meeting for 2024 held at Life Camp, Abuja.
He said the two sports centres will boast of several sports facilities, including football pitches, lawn tennis, table tennis, indoor sports facilities and all other facilities necessary for taking on sports.
The new sport centres will complement the Moshood Abiola National Stadiums, the Area 3 Sports Centre and the Old Parade Ground providing recreation for FCT residents.
“This is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly as it has to do with young people, youth development, and the physical and mental well-being of the residents of FCT. When fully developed, this will be available and open to all citizens to partake and to ensure that it is well utilized for the well-being of the people,” Daudu said.
He stated that the two locations for the sports centres had been identified, adding that when developed, everyone will know the locations of the places.
He also disclosed that the FCT EXCO considered and awarded the contract to two companies.
