Abiodun Wins Ogun Guber Election, As PDP Calls For Cancellation In Some Polling Units.

Independent National Electoral Commission( INEC) in Ogun State, on Saturday declared Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressive Congress(APC) winner of the 2023 Governorship Election in the state.

But in a swift reaction the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the state called for re-run of elections in polling units where elections were canceled

Abiodun defeated his closest rival Ladi Adebutu of PDP with 13, 915 votes.

The State Returning Officer, Prof. Kayode Adebowale announced the result at the State Collation Centre of INEC, Abeokuta, the state capital.

Adebowale, who made the announcement in company of INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC) Niyi Ijalaye, declared Abiodun winner shortly after the collation elections results from the 20 Local government Areas of the State.

He said Abiodun emerge winner of the governoship election by winning 12 Local Government Areas, while Adebutu won eight LGAs.

Adebowale said Abiodun polled 276,298 out of the 663,968 total votes cast and Adebutu scored 262,383, while Biyi Otegbeye of African Democratic Congress(ADC) polled 94,754

Declaring Abiodun the winner of the election that, the State Returning Officer said”That Abiodun Adedapo Oluwaseun, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declare d winner and is returned elected”

Meanwhile, PDP in Ogun State, has called for re-run election in polling units where elections were cancelled.

The party made this known in a petition submitted to INEC through its collation agent, Sunkanmi Olajide.

PDP accused the APC of using thugs to disrupt elections in some polling units in the state, claiming that the total number of cancelled votes was higher than the lead of margin.

“You will recall that the Commission is aware of the level of thuggery planned and orchestrated by the All Progressive Congress to unleash mayhem in some polling units across the state to destabilise innocent voters from freely exercising their voting rights as a result of planned and well executed action.

“We therefore implore the Commission to evoke this principle and declare this election inconclusive.” The party said
