President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the Opebi–Mende–Ojota Link Bridge in Lagos, a major infrastructure project designed to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across key commercial and residential corridors in the state.

The President was represented at the ceremony by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who formally inaugurated the bridge and other projects on his behalf as part of activities marking Tinubu’s two-day working visit to Lagos.

The event also featured the commissioning of the Lagos State Multi-Agency Complex in Alausa, now renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex, alongside other landmark projects executed by the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Other dignitaries present included Hope Uzodimma, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, and top government officials. Declaring the projects open, Akpabio said, “On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I commission these projects.”

The Opebi–Mende–Ojota Link Bridge, constructed by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, is a multi-billion naira project delivered under the Lagos State Government’s THEMES+ development agenda. The bridge was completed within an accelerated timeline of about 18 to 24 months, underscoring the administration’s commitment to fast-tracking critical infrastructure.

Strategically, the bridge provides alternative routes for motorists travelling through densely populated and traffic-prone corridors such as Opebi, Allen Avenue and Toyin Street, linking them directly to Ojota, Maryland and other parts of Ikeja. It is expected to significantly reduce travel time, ease pressure on existing road networks and improve overall traffic flow within the Lagos metropolis.

Officials at the event highlighted the bridge’s economic importance, noting that improved connectivity would enhance productivity by facilitating the seamless movement of goods and people across key business districts.

The commissioning forms part of a broader list of “iconic, transformative and legacy projects” delivered by the Sanwo-Olu administration. These include the Lagos State Geographic Information Service building, Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, Maracana Stadium, and the Lagos Food Logistics Hub in Abijo.

Earlier, the state government had announced partial road closures across key areas, including Opebi, Allen, Ikeja and Ojota, to ensure the smooth conduct of the commissioning exercise. The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, advised motorists to use alternative routes during the period to minimise traffic disruptions.

President Tinubu is expected to continue the inauguration of additional projects across the state as part of his official visit, reinforcing the government’s commitment to sustained investment in infrastructure and the development of a modern, globally competitive megacity.
