The National Sports Commission has showered praise on teenage sensation Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke after his gruelling 687km cycling journey captured national attention.
The 16-year-old’s achievement has been described as a bold statement of resilience, endurance, and determination.
According to officials, the young athlete completed the demanding trip from Enugu to Lagos, crossing multiple states along the way.
His arrival in Lagos on April 2, 2026, turned into a symbolic moment as he was received by Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The journey, driven by autism awareness, has sparked conversations about inclusion and societal attitudes.
“Congratulations: Nigeria celebrates a remarkable display of endurance and determination by 16-year-old Guinness World Record holder Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, who completed a 687KM cycling journey from Enugu to Lagos, arriving on April 2, 2026 after traversing multiple states.
“Already globally recognised for his Guinness World Record achievement in art, Kanyeyachukwu continues to expand his impact through sport, using endurance as a platform to challenge perceptions and inspire a new generation,” the statement read.
Officials say the feat highlights the growing importance of sports as a tool for social advocacy and youth empowerment.
“For the National Sports Commission, this is more than a journey completed. It is a clear demonstration of how sport can drive inclusion, inspire belief, and showcase the strength and potential of Nigeria’s youth,” it stated.
Kanyeyachukwu had earlier gained global recognition for his record-breaking art project titled “Impossibility is a Myth.”
He continues to leverage his rising profile to challenge stereotypes surrounding autism.
