Box Office Shock: Iyabo Ojo’s ‘Return of Arinzo’ smashes records with explosive N104m debut

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has stunned the industry as her latest release, “Return of Arinzo,” stormed the box office with a staggering N104.8 million opening weekend.

The film didn’t just top the Easter charts, it shattered records, emerging as the highest-grossing movie of the holiday period and the biggest opening ever recorded for a Nollywood sequel.

Ojo made the announcement on X, celebrating the milestone and crediting fans for turning the project into a blockbuster success.

“Thank you, everyone, for the love you showed us. TROA opens with N104.8m, breaking multiple records in just one weekend.

“Highest grossing Easter weekend performance, biggest opening for a Nollywood sequel. This was only possible because of you,” she wrote.

Distributor FilmOne Entertainment attributed the massive turnout to a deep emotional connection between the film and audiences across West Africa.

“₦104.8M in its opening weekend, the biggest Easter opening, and the highest-grossing film of the weekend.

“But beyond the numbers, this is what it looks like when a story connects… when people see themselves on screen and show up for it. West Africa, you didn’t just watch, you showed up… you filled the cinemas, you made it a moment,” it stated.

“Return of Arinzo” continues the legacy of the 2013 hit “Arinzo,” diving into intense themes of crime and personal redemption.

The production boasts a star-studded lineup featuring Funke Akindele, Mercy Aigbe, and William Benson.

Its dominance is even more striking given the fierce competition typically associated with the Easter release window.

The Lagos premiere amplified the buzz, especially after a viral moment involving Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham set social media ablaze.
