The Oyo State Police Command has uncovered the body of an unidentified woman in the Egbeda area of Ibadan and has called on members of the public to assist in identifying the deceased.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
According to the statement, the body was found on Saturday, March 14, 2026, after a concerned resident reported the discovery to officers at the Egbeda Divisional Police Headquarters.
The police spokesperson explained that the informant had arrived at his car wash business located at Ile Marun, Iwo Road, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, when he noticed the body of a woman lying in a nearby drainage channel.
“Following the report, a team of police officers led by the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) from the Egbeda Division immediately visited the scene,” the statement said.
“Upon reaching the location, officers discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified woman inside the drainage. A preliminary check revealed visible injuries around the head area, raising suspicion of possible foul play.”
Olayinka further stated that photographs were taken at the scene before the body was removed and taken to the mortuary at Adeoyo State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan, where it was preserved for further examination and autopsy.
He noted that investigations have already begun to determine the identity of the deceased as well as the circumstances that led to her death.
The police therefore urged anyone with a missing female relative to visit the Egbeda Divisional Police Headquarters or any nearby police station to help with the identification process.
“The Command assures residents that thorough investigations will be carried out to uncover what led to this unfortunate incident and ensure that anyone responsible is brought to justice,” the statement added.
Residents were also encouraged to remain alert and continue providing useful information to security agencies to help maintain safety and protect lives and property across the state.
