Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has sparked debate after naming her personal “Afrobeats Big 3” without including Davido or Burna Boy.
The singer made the revelation during an interview on Hot 97.
Instead of the usual trio recognised by fans, she named Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Rema as her top Afrobeats stars.
Her selection quickly generated conversations among music fans.
Traditionally, many consider Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy as the genre’s biggest trio because of their global influence.
However, Ayra Starr’s choice reflected a different perspective on the evolving music scene.
“My Afrobeats Big 3 would be Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Rema,” she said.
The statement triggered debates across social media about generational shifts in Afrobeats.
Meanwhile, the singer also explained why she relocated to New York City in the United States.
Speaking in another interview with media personality Angela Yee, she said the city’s cultural atmosphere influenced her decision.
According to the singer, she had spent two summers in New York before deciding to stay longer.
She revealed that she once lived in the Hell’s Kitchen neighbourhood with friends for about three months.
Ayra Starr said she enjoyed the environment and the experience of watching American shows and movies there.
She added that although Los Angeles was an option, the distance and time difference with Nigeria made New York more convenient.
