Nigerian singer Omah Lay has stunned fans by revealing how a brief romance left him emotionally wrecked and overshadowed one of the biggest nights of his career.
He made the revelation during the listening party of his new album, Clarity of Mind.
According to the singer, the relationship lasted only two months, yet he had already imagined a future that included having a child with the woman.
Shockingly, the breakup happened during the Grammy Awards while Justin Bieber was performing, turning what should have been a career highlight into a humiliating personal moment.
The singer said the emotional turmoil ruined his ability to enjoy the ceremony or focus on the music as he battled heartbreak in real time.
The painful episode later became the inspiration behind a track on his upcoming album.
The song, titled Don’t Love Me, reflects his struggle between chasing love and protecting his personal happiness.
Omah Lay admitted that his intense way of committing to relationships made the experience even harder for him to process.
He said: “I thought it was the right relationship and I was going to have a baby. Every time I fall in love, I lose myself. While I was at the Grammy and Justin Bieber was performing, I was having a breakup and an embarrassing moment. I wasn’t even present at the Grammys because even before the show, I had already started having issues in my relationship.
“This was only a two-month-old relationship, but I gave it my all. I do not know how to do two things at a time. When I am into one thing, all of me is into that. My song ‘Don’t Love Me’ is me saying, let us enjoy this moment, but as soon as I find another thing that gives me pleasure, I’m going to leave.”
