The Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) has reaffirmed its pivotal role in value creation within Nigeria’s real estate sector, emphasizing that estate surveyors and valuers occupy a leading position among professionals in the built environment.

This was stated by the Chairman of NIESV, Mr. Tosin Kadiri, during an interview with journalists at the Institute’s secretariat in Ikeja earlier this week, identifying value determination as the defining strength of estate surveyors and valuers within Nigeria’s built industry.

According to him, while architects focus primarily on design and urban planners concentrate on spatial development, estate surveyors approach projects from the standpoint of value maximization, particularly in determining the highest and best use of property.

“From conception to completion and management, we are concerned with the value a project will deliver whether monetary or non-monetary,” he said.

Kadiri explained that estate surveyors play a critical advisory role in assessing location suitability, affordability alignment, investment viability, and the long-term sustainability of real estate projects.

He further noted that professional guidance from qualified estate surveyors helps investors preserve wealth and structure property portfolios capable of generating returns beyond their lifetime.

The Chairman also highlighted ongoing collaboration between industry practitioners and academia. He disclosed that lecturers are actively engaged in institutional committees to ensure academic training remains aligned with evolving industry standards and expectations.

Through sustained engagement and mentoring initiatives, the Institute is committed to preparing graduates adequately for professional practice.

He urged members of the public to consult qualified estate surveyors and valuers when making real estate decisions, stressing that professional advice remains essential for achieving long-term investment objectives.
