Saida, the mother of late Afrobeat singer Afeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, has revealed that her son died after battling a long-term illness.

The singer passed away on January 18, 2025, after struggling with a condition locally referred to as “Ogu oru,” which caused recurring seizures.

In a viral video, Saida said the family kept his illness private to protect his image as a rising star.

She detailed how traditional healers and clerics were involved in managing his condition.

She firmly dismissed rumours linking her son’s death to money rituals, calling them baseless and cruel.

Destiny Boy had recently welcomed his first child in November 2024.

Police authorities have confirmed investigations into his death are ongoing.
