ALADJA, Delta State — Tension has reportedly gripped Aladja community in Udu Local Government Area following the killing of a 35-year-old man, identified as Ambrose, popularly known as Yellow, during a suspected rival cult and land-related clash.
The incident reportedly occurred late on Monday night, December 1, 2025, amid a long-standing land dispute involving rival groups within the community.
According to information gathered by our correspondent in Aladja, Ambrose was allegedly attacked by members of one of the feuding groups who considered him a target in the ongoing conflict. Sources said the deceased had previously worked as secretary to a former community chairman, Sunday Kenneth Aniemeke, a role believed to have linked him to the dispute.
Residents recounted hearing loud commotion late in the night before Ambrose was found critically injured. An undisclosed community source alleged that the attack was connected to the victim’s association with the former chairman, who is reportedly being sought by the rival group over accusations that he denied members of the neighbouring Ogbeh-Ijaw community access into Aladja. Ambrose was said to have died at the scene before help could arrive.
Meanwhile, in a related development, tension escalated further on Saturday night, January 13, 2026, when another violent clash reportedly claimed one life in Aladja.
Community sources said suspected youths from the Ogbeh-Ijaw community, believed to be members of a cult group known as the Aiye Confraternity, also referred to as Black Axe, allegedly attacked residents, shooting two persons during the incident.
One of the victims, identified as Israel Igho, also known as BTC, was reportedly killed. He was believed to be a member of a rival confraternity. Another victim, Moses Lucky, who was said not to belong to any cult group, was also shot.
Sources explained that Moses Lucky, an executive under the former community chairman, was targeted because of his association with Sunday Kenneth Aniemeke, who is said to have fled the community. It was alleged that the attackers, unable to locate the former chairman, have resorted to targeting his perceived associates.
In response to the growing insecurity, a town crier reportedly went round Aladja community warning youths to either leave the area or exercise extreme caution in their movements.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant as fear and uncertainty continue to spread across the community.
Meanwhile, recent findings reveal that the feuding groups are hell-bent on eliminating former community chairman Sunday Kenneth Aniemeke, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
