Chelsea have sent shockwaves through English football by appointing little-known Liam Rosenior as their new head coach on a six-year deal.
The 41-year-old replaces Enzo Maresca and confirmed earlier in the day that he had “verbally agreed” to the move before Chelsea made it official.
“I am extremely humbled and honoured,” Rosenior said, describing Chelsea as a club with a “unique spirit” and a winning identity he intends to protect.
Rosenior has just three years’ managerial experience and has never coached in the Premier League.
He was widely tipped as the frontrunner following Maresca’s sacking, with both clubs owned by the BlueCo consortium.
The former Hull City boss becomes Chelsea’s fourth permanent manager since the takeover in 2022.
Rosenior admitted that leaving Strasbourg was emotional, insisting he wanted to face the media personally before departing.
Despite limited top-level experience, Rosenior expressed excitement at the challenge, calling the role a lifelong dream.
