The Super Eagles of Nigeria completed a flawless Group C campaign at AFCON 2025 with a commanding 3–1 victory over Uganda, underlining the gulf between contenders and participants.
The win extended Nigeria’s perfect run and confirmed their status as early tournament pacesetters.
Already qualified, Nigeria showed no mercy as goals from Paul Onuachu and a Raphael Onyedika brace dismantled a Ugandan side full of effort but short on answers.
Onuachu opened the scoring in the 28th minute, rising highest to head home after sustained Nigerian pressure.
Uganda briefly threatened a fightback when Salim Magoola pulled one back in the 56th minute, offering a flicker of hope.
That hope lasted all of six minutes before Onyedika calmly restored Nigeria’s two-goal cushion after a slick midfield move.
He struck again in the 67th minute with a thunderous effort that effectively killed the contest.
Uganda continued to battle and grabbed a late goal through Rogers Mato in the 75th minute, but Nigeria were already cruising.
The result sealed Nigeria’s place at the top of Group C with nine points, eight goals scored and four conceded, while Uganda finished bottom with just one point.
Nigeria now turn their focus to the knockout stage, where they will face a third-placed team from Groups A, B or F on January 6.
