Tragedy struck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Mon
day following a road accident involving Nigerian-British boxing star, Anthony Joshua, which reportedly claimed the lives of two persons in Ogun State.

The fatal crash occurred in the Makun area, near Danco Filling Station, when a Lexus SUV conveying the former heavyweight world champion allegedly collided with a stationary truck under circumstances that are yet to be fully ascertained.

Eyewitnesses said the impact of the collision was severe, leaving two occupants dead at the scene, while emergency responders swiftly arrived to rescue survivors and secure the area.

A source involved in the rescue operation confirmed that Joshua sustained only minor injuries and was promptly attended to by medical personnel. The source added that the identities of the deceased victims had not been confirmed as of press time.

“The vehicle ran into a stationary truck along the expressway. Two people died instantly, while Anthony Joshua was fortunate to escape with minor injuries,” the source disclosed.

The Lexus SUV, with registration number KRD 850 HN, was said to have been extensively damaged as a result of the crash.

Joshua, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated sports exports, recently returned to global headlines after defeating Jake Paul in a widely publicised heavyweight bout tagged “Judgment Day”, held on December 19, 2025, at the Kaseya Center in Miami, United States.

Meanwhile, investigations into the incident are ongoing, as motorists and residents renewed calls on relevant authorities to strengthen safety measures along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway to prevent further loss of lives.
