Sokoto Police Command arrest members of Notorious ‘Sai Malam’ cult group

According to the Police Commissioner Ahmad Musa while briefing newsmen said the activities of the group have recently generated fear and concern among residents across several residents in Sokoto.

He said acting on the information by Anti-napping unit,the Command intensified a massive manhunt for the remaining members of the gang.

The leader and chief Priest of the gang Muhammad Mukhtar popularly known as was arrested while conducting a search at his residence.

During the search, one big Python snake alongside banners with inscription “Sai Malam” and various fetish materials and charms were recovered.

CP Musa further averred that the arrest has served as a significant breakthrough in their efforts to completely dismantle the dangerous group assuring people of the state that the Command remain steadfast and unwavering in its commitment to neutralize all criminal networks threatening the of Sokoto communities.

In a related development, the Command has arrested one rapist,Anas Sani of Gidan Igwai for conspiracy, abduction, intimidation and rape.

The arrest accordingly followed a report of the rape and abduction of two girls aged 17 and 18 years.

The suspect confessed to engaging in the criminal activities in collaboration with Nafiu Muhammad, Adam Nura alias Willy and Mubarak Yusuf who are at large.

CP Musa in furtherance said the suspects were using the cover of Peace Corps Organization to lure unsuspecting young girls into their office at Government Day Secondary School Gidan Igwai in Sokoto metropolis where they intimidate and forcefully had carnal knowledge of them and similarly video record the acts and use the footage to continuously blackmail victims into further sexual abuse.

One of them was arrested while 28 victims have been identified.

However, CP Ahmad Musa emphasized on precautionary steps for all individuals and families to observe throughout the and immediately after the Yuletide period enumerating heightening personal vigilance,securing of homes,verifying identities, supervising young children activities, reporting of suspected movements and responsible celebration among others.
