Abubakar Yakubu’s historic rise as the new President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria ended abruptly after he was reportedly arrested over a fatal car crash in Surulere, Lagos.
Yakubu had barely celebrated his razor-thin victory over veteran actress Rita Daniels, winning by just 116 votes to 113 with three votes voided, before the scandal erupted.
His emergence was widely hailed as groundbreaking, marking the first time a Northerner would lead the Guild since its registration in 1998, breaking a long pattern of southern dominance.
But the celebrations were cut short after a pedestrian was allegedly killed in the Surulere incident, a case now shrouded in conflicting accounts.
Details about the victim and the conditions surrounding the accident remain murky, fueling public speculation.
Security agencies have yet to release any official information confirming his arrest or clarifying the circumstances of the crash.
