The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed Umar Faruk as the legitimate Chairman of its Sokoto State chapter, dismissing claims by Bello Isiyaku (Keegan) that he occupies the position.
In a statement signed by Alhaji Muhammad Umar on behalf of the party’s leadership, the ADC explained that Isiyaku is no longer recognized within the party hierarchy, having been suspended in September 2022 for seeking the 2023 governorship ticket without proper clearance. The party noted that his actions constituted a violation of established procedures and constitutional provisions.
The statement added that the ADC national headquarters subsequently reconstituted the state leadership, formally ratifying Faruk’s position. Faruk, it stressed, has since been representing the Sokoto chapter at major party functions, including the recent emergency mini-convention in Zaria.
The party warned Isiyaku to desist from parading himself as chairman or issuing public statements on behalf of the ADC, cautioning that continued impersonation would attract legal consequences.
