The ministry has also partnered with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to implement solar projects in hospitals. Through the REA’s Energising Education Programme (EEP-3), hybrid solar grids have been deployed to several teaching hospitals. The programme is funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the World Bank as part of the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP).
The project has brought smiles to the faces of staff and patients at the Centre, particularly those at the radiology department, which benefits more from the solar project.
The head of the radiology department, Dr. Abubakar Musa, stated that the project has been beneficial, providing 24 hours of light for their offices and enabling their ultrasound equipment to function optimally.
However, Dr. Musa called on the management of the Centre and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to provide more solar interventions to enable them to power their X-ray and CT scan machines.
Similarly, Dr. Aminu Abdullahi, a consultant with the department, expressed gratitude for the project, saying it has enhanced a conducive environment and enabled clinical and academic presentations conveniently.
Dr Abdullahi echoed a sentiment that “the department shall get more of these projects so that our other machines could be on the solar system.
On the other hand, the Medical Director of the Center, Dr Bello A Mohammed, has thanked the Ministry for considering the Centre and assured staff of the hospital on his continued efforts to get more solar projects to the Centre.
