The Niger State Sports Commission (NSSC) has announced that the state government will invest over ₦30 million to host the “Bago National Division One Basketball League Minna 2025,” scheduled for November 22–29, 2025.

Commission Chairman Danjuma Abdul Masu disclosed the development while briefing journalists at the Savannah Conference Indoor Sports Hall in Minna. He noted that 19 states are expected to participate, with only teams registered under the Nigeria Basketball Federation eligible.

Masu stressed the commission’s commitment to developing all sports under Governor Mohammed Umar Bago’s mandate, adding that opportunities for partnerships remain open as the state works to strengthen sports infrastructure.

He confirmed that two teams will earn promotion to the national league after the tournament, describing the event as a pathway toward restoring the state’s sporting prominence.

Masu also revealed that Niger State is preparing to bid for the 2030 National Sports Festival and has begun implementing activities and capacity-building programmes to position the state ahead of the event.

Technical team leader Abdulrahaman Mohammed expressed confidence in the players’ readiness, praising the blend of youth and experience and noting the team’s strong motivation.

Meanwhile, Nigerian women’s basketball coach Rena Wakama recently added a new chapter to her career after being appointed head coach of Hive Basketball Club in the U.S.-based Unrivaled league. Her appointment extends her influence both at home and abroad following her groundbreaking achievements with D’Tigress.
