The police in Ogun State have arrested a 24-year-old suspected cultist and member of the Aiye confraternity, who has been terrorizing residents of Igbesa and its environs.
The suspect, identified as Sulaiman Laja, was discovered wearing a disguise when he was apprehended.
Spokesperson of the command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement made available on Tuesday.
According to her, Laja, on interrogation, confessed to being an active member of the Aiye cult group and provided useful information identifying other fleeing members of the gang.
She stated that he was taken to his hideout, where a thorough search led to the recovery of a serviceable single-barrel gun that was most likely used for illegal activity in the neighbourhood.
“The suspect was sighted in a disguised appearance. He was arrested and taken to his hideout, where a thorough search led to the recovery of a serviceable single-barrel gun, strongly believed to have been used for criminal activities within the community.
“He admitted to being an active member of the Aiye cult group and provided useful information identifying other fleeing members of the gang. A manhunt has since commenced to ensure their swift arrest,” Odutola stated.
She disclosed that the suspect and the recovered exhibit will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
