Media personality Chinedu Ani, popularly known as Nedu, has alleged that some slim women in Lagos deliberately get pregnant to add weight and later abort the pregnancy after achieving their desired body size.
Nedu made the claim during his show on Max 102.3 FM, saying he had heard several cases of young women using pregnancy as a weight-gain strategy. According to him, women seek the “pregnancy weight” and later terminate the pregnancy once they reach their preferred body shape.
His remarks have sparked strong reactions online, with many Nigerians alleging the trend has been ongoing for years. Some commenters shared personal experiences, insisting that some women also resort to fattening drugs and even misuse HIV medication to gain weight.
A medical doctor, quoted by one social media user, reportedly confirmed that such practices often result in long-term reproductive damage, though some women remain unconcerned as long as they achieve their desired looks.
The claims have triggered renewed conversations about body image pressure and unsafe methods some women resort to in pursuit of curvier figures.
