Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State has continued to make significant strides in infrastructural development, with ongoing projects reshaping communities and improving public services across the state.
During a recent media tour of selected local government areas—approved by Governor Aliyu and conducted by the Sokoto State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by Chairman Usman Muhammad Binji—our correspondent observed that more than 30 township roads have been completed and asphalted. An additional 40 road projects are also at various stages of completion.
In the housing sector, the state government is constructing 1,000 new homes in Gidan Salanke and Wajake. It has also purchased 137 housing units from the Federal Government at Kwannawa to reduce the housing deficit.
Efforts to address the state’s long-standing water shortage are ongoing, with contracts awarded for the completion of four major water schemes in Tamaje, Mana, and other communities.
Governor Aliyu’s administration is also advancing its Independent Power Project (IPP), which is now 80 percent complete. The initiative is expected to provide reliable electricity to public facilities and households once fully operational.
To improve security, the state has established a Community Guard Corps equipped with 40 patrol vehicles and 700 motorcycles. More than 130 additional patrol vehicles have also been procured for conventional security agencies to boost their response capacity.
Sokoto City is experiencing a new urban glow following the installation of solar-powered streetlights and the introduction of a more efficient refuse collection system.
In the agricultural sector, the government has rehabilitated the Lugu and Kware dams to support dry-season farming. It has also distributed fertilizers, pesticides, and seedlings to farmers to enhance productivity.
The education sector is not left behind, with ongoing efforts to re-accredit tertiary institutions, renovate and construct school facilities, and supply instructional materials across the state.
These interventions align with Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s 9-Point Smart Agenda, which seeks to transform Sokoto State and improve the overall quality of life for its residents.
