Abuja, Nigeria – Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has vowed to stop illegal constructions in the nation’s capital, regardless of the parties involved.

According to a press release from Rabi Umar Musa, the Assistant Director of Press, Office of the Minister on Tuesday, this declaration comes after a confrontation with military officers from the Nigerian Navy, who obstructed Wike’s inspection of an unauthorized development in Gaduwa District on the same Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

Wike, accompanied by his team, including the Director of Development Control, Town Planner Mukhtar Galadima, was prevented from accessing the site by naval officers claiming to act on orders from a former Chief of Naval Staff, who allegedly lacked requisite title documents and Development Control Approval.

The Minister condemned the actions as “lawlessness” and questioned the use of military personnel to protect illegal development and land grabbing. “The way we have carried out our job in other areas is the same way it will be done here,” Wike stated. “He will not carry out this illegal development and land grabbing simply because he was a former Chief of Naval Staff. I will not allow that.”

Wike has engaged the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Naval Staff, who have assured him of intervention to resolve the matter. The FCT Administration remains committed to enforcing regulations and protecting government lands.
