Nigeria and the Republic of Korea have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, deepening trade cooperation, and promoting cultural exchange as both nations joined to celebrate the Republic of Korea’s National Day in Abuja.

The event, which brought together top government officials, diplomats, and business leaders, featured goodwill messages from the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, represented by the Chairman, House Committee on Nigeria–Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group, Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, and the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, represented by Amb. Mohammed Haidara, Deputy Director, Asia and Pacific Division of the Ministry.

The Speaker, in his address, lauded Korea’s remarkable transformation from a post-war nation into a global industrial powerhouse, describing it as an inspiration for developing nations like Nigeria.

“The Republic of Korea stands as a shining example of visionary leadership, discipline, and innovation. Nigeria and Korea enjoy a relationship rooted in mutual respect, trade, education, and technology,” Ezechi stated on behalf of the Speaker.

He noted that Nigeria stands to benefit immensely from Korea’s technological and industrial advancement, expressing optimism that the partnership between both nations would further boost digital innovation, energy development, and structural transformation.

“Our people-to-people exchanges continue to grow. Nigerian students, professionals, and entrepreneurs are finding opportunities in Korea, while Korean enterprises are contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth. This bond reflects a deepening friendship built on shared progress,” he added.

In his remarks, Amb. Haidara, representing the Foreign Affairs Minister, highlighted that the strength of the Nigeria–Korea relationship lies in cooperation, shared values, and a commitment to peace and mutual development.

“Over the years, our partnership has flourished across sectors such as investment, education, technology, and family planning. These collaborations underscore the meaningful contributions both countries are making to global peace and cooperation,” Haidara said.

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to continue engaging Korea in productive dialogue and partnership to promote sustainable development.

On his part, Mr. Tak Namung, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nigeria, commended Nigeria’s growing reputation as a leader in creativity, innovation, and fintech in Africa.

“In a creative society, true progress is built on freedom and human dignity. Korea’s technology, K-pop, and K-food all stem from a belief in openness and creativity that can change lives,” he said.

Tak noted that Korea deeply values its relationship with Nigeria, describing the partnership as one founded on mutual admiration and shared aspirations.

“Nigeria leads Africa in innovation, and that same passion and imagination mirror the spirit that drove Korea’s growth. Over 1,800 Nigerian students and officials have studied in Korea, and they are now making an impact back home. This people-to-people bond remains our greatest strength,” he added.

The celebration not only honoured Korea’s National Day but also served as a testament to the enduring friendship between both nations — a partnership driven by cooperation, cultural appreciation, and a shared vision for prosperity.
