Sokoto North, South LG Chairmen urge State Gov’t for greater support to drive rural development

By: Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto.

The chairmen of Sokoto North and South Local Government Areas have urged the state government to provide them with more opportunities and resources to execute development projects, especially in rural communities.

This call stems from their proximity to rural dwellers and their deeper understanding of local needs.

The chairmen, Ya’u Muhammad Danda of Sokoto South and Jamilu Umar Garba of Sokoto North, emphasized that their closeness to the grassroots uniquely positions them to identify and address pressing challenges such as infrastructure deficits, inadequate healthcare, and poor education facilities.

They appealed for greater autonomy and increased funding to implement projects that would improve living standards and stimulate economic growth across their communities.

Given Sokoto’s security challenges, the chairmen also highlighted the need for stronger collaboration with security agencies and community leaders to ensure the successful and safe execution of development initiatives.

They reiterated that local governments remain crucial to grassroots development since they best understand community-specific needs. Greater opportunities and support, they noted, would translate into improved infrastructure, better healthcare delivery, enhanced education, and expanded economic prospects for rural dwellers in Sokoto State.
