Football fans could be in for a major surprise as reports from Turkey suggest that Lionel Messi may be on the verge of a sensational short-term move to Galatasaray, where he could link up with Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
According to Fotomac, the Turkish champions are exploring the possibility of signing the Inter Miami captain on loan during the January transfer window. The club reportedly believes the move would give Messi valuable playing time and maintain his fitness ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Messi, who recently signed a contract extension with Inter Miami that keeps him at the club until the end of the 2028 season, is not expected to leave permanently. However, the Major League Soccer (MLS) off-season could open a window for a temporary switch, provided all parties, Messi, Inter Miami, and Galatasaray, reach an agreement.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, who turns 38 in June 2026, has made it clear he intends to continue competing at the highest level for as long as possible. A short spell in Europe’s top competition could serve as both a fresh challenge and preparation for his final World Cup campaign.
Should the move materialize, Messi would form a mouthwatering attacking partnership with Super Eagles talisman Victor Osimhen, who has been in outstanding form for the Turkish giants.
Osimhen recently made headlines by scoring his first-ever Champions League hat-trick in Galatasaray’s 3–0 demolition of Ajax, further solidifying his reputation as one of Europe’s most lethal strikers.
While negotiations are still at an early stage, Galatasaray fans are already dreaming of witnessing two global superstars, Messi and Osimhen, leading the club’s charge in domestic and continental competitions.
