The Igbogila Council of Chiefs has accused Hon. Adegoke Olusesi Adeyanju, popularly known as Awoso, of alleged interference and forgery in the ongoing process to fill the vacant stool of the Olu of Igbogila in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
In a press statement signed by the council and read to journalists on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, the chiefs alleged that Hon. Awoso, in connivance with members of the immediate past Oba’s family, masterminded the suspension of five chiefs, including two kingmakers, in December 2022 while the late monarch was bedridden.
According to the council, forensic analysis by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, Lagos, confirmed that the suspension letters purportedly issued by the late Kabiyesi were forged.
“Some persons are already facing prosecution before the Magistrate Court, Ilaro, over the issue of forgery,” the statement noted.
The chiefs further alleged that Hon. Awoso and his allies expanded the number of kingmakers from five to seven, appointing new ones from the same family line to secure influence over the next monarch’s selection.
They also accused the lawmaker of conferring about 35 unauthorized chieftaincy titles without the council’s consent, describing the act as a “desecration of Igbogila’s customs and traditions.”
The council maintained that the matter is before the Ogun State High Court and warned against any attempt to impose a candidate, particularly one allegedly backed by Hon. Awoso. “We believe government is being careful and meticulous in handling the matter. Any protest or campaign at this stage is merely the handiwork of those desperate to install their stooge,” the statement read.
The Igbogila Council of Chiefs expressed appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun and the state’s Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for their “neutral and responsible approach” to the dispute, urging all parties to await the court’s decision.
