Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving key maritime and security projects in Ogun State, describing them as transformative steps toward economic renewal and national security enhancement.
Daniel, who serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, gave the commendation on Sunday during the Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (BATOGD) Mid-Term Community Assessment and Review Tour held in Abigi, Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.
The senator expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for authorizing the establishment of a naval base and dockyard in Ode-Omi, as well as revitalizing plans for the long-delayed Olokola Deep Seaport. According to him, the initiatives mark a significant milestone in unlocking the state’s marine and industrial potential.
“The Navy was not in a hurry to commence operations here. What we are witnessing today is the outcome of strategic planning and the President’s unwavering commitment to Ogun’s development,” Daniel said. He added that construction will begin in stages, starting with accommodation for naval officers, administrative buildings, perimeter fencing, and security infrastructure to be followed by a naval hospital and secondary school.
Reflecting on his tenure as governor, Daniel noted that the projects align with his earlier efforts to industrialize Ogun State, including the creation of the Gateway Industrial and Petro-Gas Institute (GIPI) to train technical manpower. He revealed plans to revive the institute with federal assistance, citing the recent federal takeover of Tai Solarin University of Education as proof that such collaborations can succeed where state resources are limited.
The former governor also lauded the planned routing of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway through Ogun Waterside, describing it as a game changer that will spur investment, tourism, and employment opportunities. He assured that Ogun residents would remain steadfast in their support for President Tinubu, promising overwhelming grassroots backing in the 2027 elections.
“The people of Ogun are deeply grateful for these developmental strides,” Daniel declared. “We will show our appreciation through massive votes in 2027. President Tinubu means well for Nigeria, and we must all rally behind him.”
Daniel further emphasized that the naval presence would not only bolster security but also stimulate local commerce. He urged residents to remain patient and cooperative as the Federal Government executes the projects, assuring that sufficient budgetary provisions have been made to ensure their timely completion.
