The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has commended the Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, for his remarkable strides in transforming Birnin Kebbi from what was once a glorified local government headquarters into a befitting and vibrant state capital.
Gen. Musa gave the commendation on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Governor at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
The Defence Chief, visibly impressed by the level of development, said the state capital had undergone a total transformation.
“Last year, I was in Birnin Kebbi, and it wasn’t like this. In fact, before proceeding with my remarks, I must commend your giant strides. You have achieved so much in infrastructure, education, agriculture, health, and security,” he said.
Gen. Musa expressed appreciation to Governor Idris for his unwavering support to the military and other security agencies operating in the state, noting that such collaboration had strengthened the fight against crime and criminality.
“Your Excellency, we are deeply grateful for your support. You have provided operational vehicles and other logistics that have enabled our personnel to perform their duties more effectively. We can only thank you and pray for your continued success,” he added.
The CDS reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces to sustaining efforts to tackle banditry and other security threats in Kebbi State and across the country.
“I want to assure Your Excellency that we remain committed to addressing the security challenges not only in Kebbi State but throughout Nigeria,” he assured.
Gen. Musa also urged residents to provide credible intelligence to security agencies, emphasizing that maintaining peace and security is a collective responsibility.
Responding, Governor Nasir Idris expressed appreciation to the military and other security agencies for their relentless efforts in curbing insecurity across the state.
He attributed the progress recorded in the fight against crime to the dedication and professionalism of the security operatives.
Governor Idris, however, dismissed as false recent reports alleging that the state government had engaged foreigners to assist in combating banditry.
“This is not true. I will never engage anyone from outside. Our security agencies are doing their best, I believe in them, and I am fully satisfied with their performance,” the Governor clarified.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining close collaboration with security agencies to ensure lasting peace and development in Kebbi State.
