Record-Breaking exit: Postecoglou dismissed after 39 days at Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have parted ways with Ange Postecoglou just over a month into his tenure, making his time in charge the shortest permanent managerial stint in Premier League history. The decision came less than half an hour after a 3-0 home loss to Chelsea on Saturday – Forest’s latest in a string of poor results.

Appointed on 9 September, Postecoglou lasted only 39 days at the City Ground, overseeing eight matches without registering a single win. The Australians’ brief and turbulent spell yielded just two draws and six defeats, with only one point collected in five league fixtures.

Forest were hovering precariously above the drop zone at the time of his departure, sitting 17th in the Premier League table. Results elsewhere later in the day saw them fall into the bottom three.

In a short statement, the club said: “Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The club will make no further comment at this time.”

Postecoglou, previously in charge at Tottenham, had arrived with high expectations but struggled to impose his attacking philosophy on a squad still in flux after summer changes.

The club is understood to be keen on a swift replacement, with Sean Dyche and Fulham boss Marco Silva both under consideration. Silva, in particular, has close ties to Forest’s owner Evangelos Marinakis, from their shared time at Olympiacos.

Forest now faces another period of transition as they seeks stability in what has become an increasingly volatile managerial hot seat.
