Tinubu hails Kogi Gov Ododo for upholding sound financial principles

By: Goodluck E. Adubazi, Abuja.

President Bola Tinubu has commended Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, describing him as a pride of the accountancy profession for his integrity, professionalism, and commitment to sound financial management in governance.

This was contained in a statement released on Monday by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Ismail Isah.

According to the statement, President Tinubu made the remarks while receiving a delegation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) at the State House, Abuja. The visit followed the conclusion of the 55th Annual Accountants’ Conference.

The delegation, led by ICAN President, Mallam Haruna Nma Yahaya, and IFAC President, Mr. Jean Bouquot, met with the President to reaffirm their commitment to accountability, transparency, and national development.

In his address, President Tinubu applauded the accounting profession for its vital role in driving economic reforms and promoting fiscal responsibility, describing accountants as key players in Nigeria’s journey toward sustainable development.

“The accountancy profession represents transparency and information disclosure. A balance sheet must be definite, sure, and sustainable. I have confidence in the profession, and I’m proud of the many great minds working with us, including the Governor of Kogi, the Governor of Jigawa, and the Accountant-General of the Federation, who are transforming theory into practice,” the President said.

Tinubu highlighted Governor Ododo’s achievements as an example of prudent financial management and transparency in public service, noting that as a Fellow of ICAN, Ododo continues to reflect the discipline and accountability that the profession stands for.

The President also praised ICAN for maintaining strong partnerships with international bodies such as IFAC and for its continued contribution to Nigeria’s fiscal and tax reforms.

He further appreciated the efforts of ICAN members serving on government committees, including the Tax and Fiscal Policy Reform Committee, whose work, he said, is helping to place Nigeria on a firm path of progress.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency and fiscal discipline, President Tinubu assured that the Federal Government would give due consideration to ICAN’s proposed amendment to its Establishment Act.

“Accountability is the question, and transparency will be the answer to many problems,” he added.

Tinubu urged ICAN to continue promoting high professional standards that would strengthen Nigeria’s economy and enhance public trust in governance.

Also present at the meeting were Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi; ICAN Vice President, Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime; Past President, Chief Felix Kolawole Bajomo; and ICAN Registrar/Chief Executive, Dr. Lanre Olasunkanmi.
