Security operatives foil attempt to vandalize TCN transmission towers in Kaduna

An attempt by suspected vandals to dismember three transmission towers belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) along the Mando–Jos 330kV Double Circuit line has been foiled by security operatives and local vigilantes in Kaduna State.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, October 5, 2025, involved towers T297, T298, and T299, where the suspects had already removed several tower members, compromising the structural integrity of the infrastructure before they were apprehended.

According to a statement issued by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, the vandals and their suspected buyers were arrested through a joint operation between security agents and community vigilantes.

“Fortunately, the transmission line remains intact and did not collapse despite the damage. Our engineers have since commenced emergency reinforcement works to stabilize the affected towers and ensure continued bulk power delivery along the Mando–Jos corridor,” the statement read.

Mrs. Mbah commended the swift response of the security operatives and the cooperation of members of the host community, which led to the successful arrest of the suspects. She added that the culprits are currently in police custody in Saminaka, Kaduna State, while investigations are ongoing.

The company also urged residents in host communities across the country to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movements around power transmission facilities to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.

TCN reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s power transmission infrastructure, working closely with security operatives to ensure reliable and efficient electricity delivery nationwide.
