The Nasarawa State Government has flagged off the disbursement of Scholarship Allowances to 16,756 indigenous Students of the area.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, who personally flagged off the Scheme, said his administration’s commitment to the education Sector will continue to be given top priority.
According to him, when he became governor of the state, there was a backlog of Scholarship Allowances, adding that his administration has since cleared it and it’s up to date in the payment of bursary Allowances to benefiting Students.
Sule, who opined that education is key and that without education one can achieve nothing, urged the beneficiaries to channel the resources coming to them through the Scholarship for the purpose of their education.
He commended the Management of the State Scholarship Board and the Ministry of Education for being prudent in the Management of finances meant for the Scheme.
In his remarks, the State Commissioner of Education, John Mamman, said his Ministry will continue to work closely with the State Scholarship Board to enable it to achieve set goals.
The Commissioner, who applauded the State government for its support and commitment to the Education Sector, said the effort is currently yielding positive results.
He advised the benefiting Students to be serious in their Academic work and not to take the government gesture for granted.
Earlier, Executive Secretary, Nasarawa State Scholarship Board, Hajiaya Sa’adatu Yahaya, said when the Portal for the 2023/2024 Scholarship application was opened, a total number of 25,000 persons applied, adding that after various levels of Screening, a total number of 16,756 Students would benefit from the Scheme, adding that Government will expend the sum of 592, 223,000 for the Scheme.
She called on the Students to be committed to their studies and strive for excellence.
