Niger sets for integrated Measles-Rubella Vaccine introduction, polio campaign (IMPACT)

Ministry of Primary Health Care, Niger state has launched a robust advocacy and sensitization drive across the Kontagora and Kagara Emirates for the upcoming Integrated Measles-Rubella Vaccine Introduction and Polio Campaign (IMPACT) by the World Bank.
The Permanent Secretary, overseeing the ministry, Dr. Mohammed Gana, who spoke at the weekend, said that the initiative is key to ensuring that every segment of the population is well-informed and ready for the vaccination process.
He further stated that the administration of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago is committed to proactive public health measures.
The Project Manager of IMPACT, Pharm. Hamza Tijani, stated the primary aim of the campaign is to achieve comprehensive immunization against these preventable diseases, ensuring every eligible child receives the necessary protection.
He stressed the campaign’s crucial role is to minimize morbidity and mortality associated with measles, rubella, and polio, thereby fostering healthier and more resilient populations.
Focus on Measles and Rubella, Dr. Junaidu Innuwa and Dr. Hauwa Nnatako, spoke extensively on the severity of measles and rubella, highlighting the vaccines’ efficacy.
They confirmed that the vaccines will be administered completely free of charge, just as they expressed gratitude and pleasure that the IMPACT project was introduced as such a transformative community health initiative, which is vital for disease elimination efforts.
His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muhammadu Bara Muazu II of Kontagora, and Emir Mallam Ahmed Garba Gunna Attahiru II of Kagara have pledged their support to mobilize their communities.
The Ministry urges all parents and guardians across Niger State to take full advantage of this free and vital health intervention to protect their children against these debilitating diseases.
