The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has inaugurated Local Council Executive Committee members in 21 LGAs in Imo State.
This was made known by the chairman of the party in the state, Prof. James Okoroma, while addressing Journalists in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
He stressed that the event marks a pivotal journey in the party’s move to establish its presence at the grassroots level.
Prof. Okoroma revealed that with this inauguration, the party is poised to participate effectively in any political contest across the state to achieve optimal success.
He explained that in ensuring transparency in the exercise, six out of the 27 LGAs did not participate in the inauguration due to unresolved challenges.
Prof Okoroma highlighted that during the nomination process of the LGA exco, the party took into consideration the major political blocs that formed the coalition to ensure that no bloc was marginalized.
The state party chairman emphasized that under Article 13, the local government structure is made up of LGA Working Committees and Executive Committees with 53 positions.
Prof Okoroma encouraged those who did not make the list to exercise patience and wait for other positions, maintaining that the structure of the party is wide enough to accommodate everyone’s interest.
He said, “Our main focus is to deliver the state from failed and inept leadership, and we are on a mission to achieve that. Today, we have prepared you for the journey ahead,” he submitted.
He called on members who may feel aggrieved, to always seek internal mechanisms for resolving disputes, noting that the Supreme Court has made it clear that the party constitution remains supreme and cannot be violated by an individual or group.
The event, which was held at the party’s secretariat in Owerri, was witnessed by members of the State Executive Working Committee and other party faithful and stakeholders.
