The wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has flagged off the 3rd phase sponsorship of different types of surgeries for residents of the state.
During the ceremony on Monday in Abakaliki the state capital, Nwifuru’s wife stressed that, ”This initiative is not just about free surgeries or health insurance cards. It is about restoring hope. It is about giving back dignity. It is about ensuring that no Ebonyi woman, man, or child suffers needlessly because of financial barriers to healthcare. It is about proving, once again, that government can be compassionate, responsive, and close to the people.”
She pledged, “Let me reaffirm our commitment that under the leadership of His Excellency, the Governor, and with BERWO Foundation, health will remain at the core of our development priorities. Because when our people are healthy, they can learn, they can work, they can farm, they can trade and together, we can build the Ebonyi State of our dreams. Together, we shall continue to build a state where health is a right, not a privilege.
The state First Lady regretted that, “Many families in our state have silently suffered from the burden of health challenges such as hernia, fibroid, poor eyesight conditions that affect productivity, dignity, and quality of life. Some of these cases, though treatable, are often left unattended because of financial difficulties. That is why BERWO Foundation is about to restore hope, give relief, and renew lives.
She expressed optimism that, through the initiative, residents will receive not only medical attention but also a renewed chance to live healthier and happier lives. “For our women, particularly those suffering from fibroids, this programme offers them an opportunity to pursue their dreams of motherhood and family life without fear or pain. For those with hernia and eye challenges, it is a step towards freedom from daily discomfort and the restoration of vision to see the brighter future ahead.
