In recognition of exceptional service to journalism and steadfast devotion to the profession, the Rotary Club of Abeokuta has presented its Outstanding Media Personality Award to Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju, Chairman of the NUJ, Ogun State Council.
The award was presented during a courtesy visit to the NUJ Chairman’s office by Rotarian Iyabo Omotoke Ilesanmi, the 14th President and first female leader of the Rotary Club, Obantoko, District 9111.
Speaking at the event, President Ilesanmi described Olanrewaju as “a trusted storyteller and bold communicator whose professional integrity continues to inspire confidence in the journalism industry.” She praised his role in media development and his consistent advocacy for truth, accountability, and ethical reporting.
In his remarks, Comrade Olanrewaju expressed deep appreciation to the Rotary Club for the recognition, noting that the award marked a major milestone in his professional journey. He assured that the NUJ would continue to collaborate with Rotary, particularly during the forthcoming NUJ Press Week, to expand awareness of Rotary’s humanitarian programmes.
“This recognition is not for me alone. I dedicate it to all journalists in Ogun State whose resilience and commitment to truth continue to shape our society positively,” Olanrewaju stated.
He further reaffirmed the union’s readiness to provide strong media support to Rotary in its mission to advance community development and social impact.
Observers believe that the recognition and emerging partnership between Rotary and the Ogun NUJ will not only strengthen the bond between both organisations but also amplify their shared vision of promoting responsible journalism, service to humanity, and positive social change.
