The Chairman of 2025 Afia-Olu Nnewi festival, Austin-Manuel Jidiofor has described Afia-Olu Nnewi as a symbolic event, saying it is a time to thank God for making the works of their hands to prosper, be it trade, and all they cultivated.
He revealed that last Sunday, they thanked God Almighty at St Mary’s Anglican Church, Uruagu Nnewi for a great harvest, adding that they would also wrap it up with thanksgiving at Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral, Nnewi.
While addressing some journalists during the 2025 Afia-Olu opening event at Nkwo Triangle Nnewi, Austin-Manuel Said they would be celebrating Afia-Olu/carnival because he is involved.
“We have many farmers in Nnewi,how do we survive if we are not farming?.The Yam Pyramid was decorated by the Nigeria Brewery,makers of life beer.They supported us tremendously.
“You can see the colorful event, life everywhere.We are celebrating the Afia-Olu festival/ carnival, so it is a different thing this year because I am involved ” he added.
He noted that to make the 2025 Afia-Olu special, they have a lot of colorful activities like wrestling, cultural displays, dance, cooking competition,lectures, award presentation to best farmer of the year, musical performances by women from all the quarters in Nnewi, and many more.
“Though we have financial challenge, but many people supported us.
People like Ibeto group, Nnewi Big Brothers in Lagos, and so many Nnewi indigenes and non indigenes in Nnewi.
“This occasion was successful, because of their huge support. I thank God for their life, and pray that God will continue to bless and replenish their pockets in million fold” he prayed.
