Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has showered praise on the Super Falcons of Nigeria following their dramatic comeback victory to secure a record 10th title at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
In a thrilling final on Saturday, the Super Falcons shocked host nation Morocco with a 3–2 win after trailing 2–0 at halftime solidifying their status as Africa’s most decorated women’s football team.
Governor Abiodun, in a statement congratulating the players, coaching staff, and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), lauded the team’s resilience, courage, and unwavering determination.
“This triumph goes beyond football, it represents courage, unity, and the relentless spirit of champions. The Super Falcons have yet again inspired the nation with their world-class performance,” he said.
He commended the team for defying the odds and etching another golden chapter in Nigeria’s sporting legacy, adding that their feat has captivated the admiration of millions both at home and across Africa.
“The road to this achievement was paved with grit, discipline, and a fierce will to win. These exceptional women have proven themselves worthy of the title true champions in every sense,” Abiodun stated.
Describing the win as a powerful source of inspiration for young athletes especially girls the governor said it sends a strong message that barriers can be broken with hard work and self-belief.
“This victory serves as a shining example to every young girl dreaming of greatness. The Super Falcons have shown that with focus and dedication, no dream is too big,” he added.
Governor Abiodun also acknowledged the efforts of the NFF and other key stakeholders for their contributions to the advancement of women’s football in Nigeria, noting that their commitment has helped sustain the team’s excellence.
“This is more than a win for the Super Falcons; it’s a milestone for Nigerian sports, gender equality in athletics, and the limitless power of dreams pursued with purpose,” the governor concluded.
