Fake NGO defrauds unsuspecting traders over N250m in Minna

Faced with the economic realities in the country, some unsuspecting traders in Minna, the Niger state capital, have played into the hands of a non-existent Non-governmental Organization (NGO). I’m a bead seller to make ends meet.

The security operatives in the State are now on the trail of the syndicate that defrauds the unsuspecting traders of their hard-earned legitimate
money.

Imager Maker of the state police Command Superintendent of Police SP. Abdul Wasiu Abiodun who confirmed this development said that an unknown fake Non-governmental organization NGO has been reported to have defrauded scores of traders in Minna

According to him, the affected traders parted away in the State capital, over N250, 000, 000 in the Maitumbi area of Minna metropolis.

It was revealed that the fake NGO was reported to have specialized in collecting
A different amount of money from the traders with the intent to supply them with
food items ranging from Rice, Maize, Sorghum, Semovita, and Wheat at subsidized rates

However, many of the traders deposited the money into the fake “company” last month, June this year, and none of the traders were supplied with any of the items.

The situation resulted in the traders storming the “warehouse” of the NGO and demanding the goods paid for or a refund of their deposits.

It was learnt that on reaching the said
“Warehouse,” the traders were shocked to find the place empty, resulting in the building being ransacked by the traders.

Superintendent of Police Abiodun added that the “NGO” has absconded even as the police have not ascertained the number
of traders duped.

The Police Spokesman said investigation into the case is ongoing and “an effort to arrest the perpetrators is being intensified
